Having these spices could make a variety of dishes come alive. Sometimes you only need a few of them and sometimes all. It’s the perfect set to keep in your cupboard to guarantee a flavor bomb in your dishes.
- Salt
Yes, let us start off with the obvious, salt. It is the ingredient that brings dishes together. Use it to season at the end of the dish or add it in whilst cooking. Listen, I was honestly scared of using salt in food, I used to add little by little to make the dish complete because at first, I used to add too much at once. Some may say that dish was inedible, yikes! But adding a little at a time and tasting as you go will be better than adding a whole lot at once, especially if you are new to cooking.
- Black Pepper
In most of our cooking, we just add black pepper and salt. The ying and yang to cooking. Using these 2 spices to make pasta and roast brings out the flavor. A simple spice. It adds a spicy note to the dish.

- Cayenne/ Paprika
Cayenne adds a spicy flavor and a slight sweet aroma to the dish. Adding a lot of cayenne can make the dish spicy, so remember to add according to your tolerance level. Paprika, a warm spice, has notes of sweet peppery taste. https://spice4u.co.za/product/cayenne-pepper-10x1kg/

- Whole Spices
Whole coriander seeds and whole mustard seeds. Coriander seeds, adding it to your dish will add a floral, citrusy and slightly nutty flavor. It is great for pasta and creating rubs for roasts. Mustard seeds, it is slightly spicy but not as pungent. It adds a peppery note to the dish.

- Garlic Powder
Perfect for meat dishes. I love garlic in meat dishes, it helps elevate the meat flavor and adds a balance to the dish. A little sprinkle helps control and brings the dish together.
